MOANA ON MONDAY NIGHT

Monday. The first day of the week. The first busy day after having free time on weekend. People have various reaction on how they welcome this 'beloved' day. Happy, to those who can't wait to do productive activities. Sad, to those who need more free time to spend with their loved ones or just themselves. In my case, on this particular day, I belong to the happy ones. The recent bad news that ruined my weekend really affected my mood. Although I finished my rants already on my previous post, the 'i-cant-believe-that-truly-happened' feeling is still there. Also, the fact that I haven't touched my chapter three and four for my thesis doesn't help either. Usually, I deal my unstable mood with doing anything that make me happy. In short, I need a good distraction. And just my luck, Disney released their new animated musical movie, Moana.

Moana (it means Ocean) tells a story of a strong-willed girl, Moana Waialiki, who is searching for Maui, a demigod who stole the heart of Te Fiti, in order to save her island from ruinous damage caused by the terrible curse of the Te Fiti's missing heart. Many obstacles have to be faced by Moana in her journey, and there are some part of this movie that will make you cry. Okay. I cried 3 times throughout the movie. My dormmates even teased me about it saying I should befriended with the crying children that sat on the seats above us. I only answered them by whimpering. I didn't expect I would be this weak (coming from a person who also cried while watching Finding Dory-_-). Back to the topic, Polynesian tribe culture (many people assume the tribe that is told in the movie is Maori) will be presented in Moana. This became the main reason why I was so interested (the folktales, the myth, the language, the tradition, et cetera!!!) even though we all know that not all of them follow the original version from Maori culture. Disney probably have adjusted some things so the movie will appeal for wide audience (a business is still a business, my friends). Anyways, because it's an animated musical movie of course I expected great songs and music from this movie and the result was satisfying. One of the songs even becomes my favorite and I keep playing it in my head (fun fact: I'm writing this post while listening to the song lol).

All in all, although Disney came up with the same formula, a princess who craves for a thrilling adventure with her sidekicks, Moana, in my opinion, will not disappoint you. And I am so happy I spent my Monday night by watching it. I hope y'all will also feel the same.

Bonus : this is my favorite song from Moana's soundtrack, How Far I'll Go - Alessia Cara
